I'm telling you, I had a friend just like this guy. Same thing.. .. used to record things. Not just calls but using his mobile in his pocket would record conversations.
Same thing too - analyzing them for those 'lies'. Then (like JJ) he'd get himself into mini-wraths trying to reconcile or catch out lies. Because they both have a 'cognitive dissonance' problem (aka definitely not clever) they would become more angry at 'contradictions' (actually their own mind unable to process/reconcile).
Anyways.. yeah its a real bad news thing and its sometimes called 'Schizo-Affective Disorder'.
Basically, its 'schizophrenia lite'. or 'jr' if you wish.

These people are often manageable with meds and therapy and the good news is that sometimes they will phase out of it as they get older and move on with life.
This also reminds me of BB9 Dale who had something like this going on.

Anyways, BB Psych really needs to be keeping an eye on JJ (im sure they are) because the guy is not normal.
