I see you're from the USA - unfortunately class is still a big issue in England, and Preston, being a direct descendant of Charles, Earl Grey, clearly considers himself too good for Chantelle the quintessential Essex girl. I dont think most people are too bothered by people backgrounds.

On topic - I dont think he ever loved her. She's far too soppy and he's far too boring to make it work.
