Unhappy The Mace Are A Disgrace. [Human Rights Argument x]

I don't know if this store exists in England but it's basically quite a big company here.

Anyway,

So there I was tonight,

Me and a group of friends.

We had just done a deal in a risky part of town with some risky people, to buy boxes of fireworks for a cheap price.

My friend actually pissed himself because we were in such a sectarian area, so he had to stop by this Chinese restraunt to clean up.

He gave me about 2 Quid and whilst my mates remained at the restraunt, I was told to go to the Mace up the street to get a lighter.

My lighter ran out of gas that day and the ******ing bellend had nothing left in his either.

So I walked in all happy,

'How much are your lighters?'

I said to the girl,

'85p...'

I was like 'k awesome' and handed her the money, I was shocked.
She shook her head and said 'You need ID'

Sorry but I mean,
UGH.

So I walked out of the Mace and was like 'Okay um, rightyo..' and walked down to give my mates the bad news.

I found myself in a tough position,

Because:

1. Me and this girl really wanted a smoke and now we couldn't.

2. I dropped my mates money afterwards.

3. We couldn't get the fireworks.

Now, I came home and did some thinking and I came to a conclusion.
THAT was against my human rights.

There is no law, that states a 14 year old lad should not be sold a lighter.

There is no age limit on these products what so ever!

Yes, there is on fags but I could of used that for anything.
Also being the fireworks, YES I know they are illegal too for underaged use but the fact still stands that they had no right to ask for ID.

They COULD of asked what I wanted them for, fair enough but no.

Sorry, so what do you all think I should do?

I plan on entering the shop next time and asking for a lighter and if any of the staff start their bollocking I'll bring up my human rights but I just need some feed back first.

And if that doesn't work I'll ******ing torture the owner on Facebook.

Yep, there is a law banning you from buying macthes/lighters when you're 14. There's also a law against smoking when you're 14 (edit - just seen you already knew that, and I'm talking about smoking not just buying btw).

Actually you couldn't legally buy skins if you wanted, I worked for them previously, I had to do a course on it.

I don't think there's one for purchasing lighters.
Lighters, Lighter Fuel, Skins, Tobacco, Cigs and maybe even more things cant be sold to under 16s

It's 18 for fags now I think, used to be 16, I'm not sure but I think matches and lighters might be 18 as well.

You apparently also have to be 16 to buy a Relentless & The Daily Star now, I got ID'd by one woman when I bought them

Never heard that law.

I bought The Daily Star the other morning and Nuts and they sold me it no problem [Same store].

I don't buy that Relentless but my annoying mate does, he's 13.

If that's true in England, because like I said I've never heard of it here, then it's a disgrace and they better not even attempt to bring it here.

More and more people are smoking at a young age now anyway, the fact they have/will put the age limit up is actually ******ing horrible.

What about 16 year olds who have started smoking and then suddenly they get told they can't for about 2 years.

Yeah it's ridiculous now, loads of shops have signs sayng that they have to ask for ID if you look under 25 which makes no sense. Why ID a 24 year old, if they look 24, and the the age limit is 18

I'm not sure if it's official or if some shops just choose to enforce a policy, because I've been buying Relentless for years and I never had any trouble buying the Daily Sport two years ago which is a lot more explicit than the Star lol, it was just this one lady who took exception to me filling my body with caffeine and exposing myself to soft pronogpraphy I guess. I managed to convince her just to sell me it though

Yeah, for smoking I think they put it up in England a few years back but that didn't happen in N.Ireland, not sure if it's now 18 over there though. It won't male that much of a difference anyway, most shops seem more leniant to selling cigarettes underage then to selling alcohol underage.

Tobacco and related items, thats the wording of the law regarding underage sales in the UK, cigarette lighter can be classed as related items. You should be 18.

Another law that covers lighters is the sales of solvents.

It is illegal to supply a substance to anyone under 18, or a person acting on behalf of someone under 18 (if the trader knows or has reasonable cause to believe that the substance, or its fumes, are likely to be inhaled by the person to achieve intoxication). Solvents include, butane gas, lighter fuels, solvent based glues and adhesives, aerosols, nail varnish remover, anti-freeze and correction fluid. Also, it is an offence to sell gas lighter refills (containing butane) to anyone under 18, regardless of whether the trader thinks they will be abused.

It would be pretty stupid to allow lighters which contain lighter fuel to be sold instead wouldnt it?

They must have thought she was underage, she had ID though so they gave her them.

i never get id'd anymore, so i can buy everything i need and i don't look 18 at all.

but if you really wanted that lighter, you should have just waited outside the shop and asked someone to go in a get it for you. i had to do that all the time before i could get served.

Ikr I did that to this guy and he was like '****** Off'

And then eventually later on in the night when we passed it again, one of my mates tried it again [To get someone else to go in] so he gave him some money and the guy goes in and comes out with a Wispa and Lucozade, the *****.

But it wasn't my money so I wasn't bothered lol
