Default How do you dispose of a mouse trap?

OK well seen a mouse go behind the washer last night so put a mouse trap down. I've just heard a massive bang so seems like the trap has shut, now I'm dreading going to have to pick it up and get rid of it or seeing splatted mouse. How the hell are you supposed to do it or do I just man up and treat it like a bit of rubbish?

Should've thought about this before I put a trap down

The only time I remember them was as a kid when my parents used them. As I kid I wanted to see gore but my recollection is that the dead-uns were just a bit squashed (i.e. neck/back broken rather than split open).

Hopefully you'll not be facing a gorefest therefore!

As a student our flatmate always insisted we use humane ones and she'd go and release the 2 we caught!

If you have caught one there are likely to be a family of them (probably about 6)

I caught 8 in my loft last year using the same square of chocolate.

Ha JFTB - the ones I mentioned as a kid were in the loft too - they used to really bug the family as you could hear them above the bedrooms in the dead of night scurrying along the ceiling tops when you were trying to get to sleep.

Yes but its such a satisfying sound when you are just dozing off to sleep and you hear the mousetrap snap shut.

Poor little mice, they done no harm to anyone except eat the wrapping paper on the Christmas presents.

Pick up the trap and take it to your bin, take a flat bladed screwdriver as well if you are a bit squeamish. Hold the trap at the back and use the screwdriver to lift the bar allow body to fall in the bin, rebait, rest and reposition trap then wash your hands.

Bacon is quite a good bait to use.

Nah the trap can go in the bin as well, they're only Ł1 a time. Its the bloody cat stealing mice from the field and dropping them in the cat flap then leaving them

Then the benfit of a humane one (in addition to the absence of gore) is that you could re-use it over and over.

Not a very environmentally friendly approach is it? It may only be small but still adds to the landfill total. Re use till its knackered. Besides the smell of the mouse that died will mask other smells and reduce any suspicions other mice have.

As for the cat stick a bell on its collar, will give warnings to animals it hunts. Something like a church bell will mean you never lose sight of it.

Should've thought about this before I put a trap down

Get a Bag
put it over your hand
pick it up - tie bag up , then in the bin outside.

Clean the trap
reset - as no mouse is solo
you have to kill all the family , however big.

Kill one mouse and the rest of them won't fall for the same trick as the dead one did, you'll have to think of something else now.. they'll probably take revenge by eating all your fruit/bread/ and anything else they can get to

if you can poke a standard biro in a hole then that is big enough for a mouse as they can collapse their skeleton

Yeah, because that's humane. And then I bet you hate the thought of hunting and such... oh well, I'm sure the mouse won't mind slowly dying.

It'll have the time of its life in a bin. They're dirty and disgusting, they spread diseases around homes so theres no way I'm letting it go especially with where i live. and yeah I do hate hunting but thats irrelevant

Just pick up the trap and the mouse will be stuck on it like cardboard.

Simples.

Just get a bag and put it in really quick.

Simples.

Plus where rubber gloves so you get no diseases.

Simples.

Already done, just got some of mothers rubber gloves out from under the sink and picked the trap up, dunno what I was worrying about...

Seriously, grow up with the 'It'll have the time of its life in a bin' - of course it will with it's tail trapped, don't be so ignorant. Yes, they can been seen as dirty, disgusting etc. - i agree with that, and I think it is pointless to let it go. But I don't really think it's humane to dispose of it how you did, if your to spineless to kill a mouse I think you will have problems later in life. And it isn't really irrelevant to comparing into what you are doing, which is in effect slowly killing an animal - rather than instantly killing it.
