England pays more for the upkeep of Scotland, N.Ireland and Wales. For now anyway... I think England is getting sick of being the one footing the bill. And considering there are more than five times as many people in England as there are in the other three countries, eventually votes will count.

Sorry to contradict you, (and I'm not talking personally here) but the English are pretty much disliked everywhere.

Asa Scot I can tell you that foreigners change instantly towards you when they find out you are Scottis and not English.

It's maybe not right, and again, I personally have yet to meet an Englishperson whom I have disliked, but it is the truth I'm afraid

And yet... I've travelled quite extensively, worked in several countries and I have made lifelong friends all over the world. Funny isn't it, people's perceptions. As a Scot, you perceive that everyone in the world dislikes the English (except you, obviously...) and yet my findings have been very different. The one place in the world where I felt threatened was Glasgow, funnily enough.

Yeah I agree, the vast majority of people I've come across have never held any bad feeling towards someone for being English

Ive travelled abroad many times and have never felt any hate. Certainly not in English speaking nations like US, Australia etc English people seem to be well liked.

I think in certain holiday resorts where the union jack wearing English go on mass there can be some negativity from the locals. But generally there is no open animosity when just travelling more low key.

I live surrounded by foreigners here and two of my best mates are from Brazil and Belgium. They love English people.

No, they are not conclusive proof of anything but neither are the foreigners youve encountered who apparently hate the English. And I doubt youve been everywhere either so you're certainly generalising.

I'm not saying every individual Englishperson is disliked.. but in general,as a nation, England isn't exacly the most popular country in the world.

My OH is English (he insists our children are half English, which I go along with for a qiet life, but insecret I tell them that they are only Scottish! )
Most of his immediate family and exrtended family are down south and I find them to be the warmest, friendliest and welcoming people I know, so Ido realise that it's not a dislike of individuals but of a nation..

Dont really see why they would dislike England and not Scotland, we're all the same nation after all.
