I am surprised this ever happened
A few years back the courtiers would have been telling Kate to sling her hook and then telling His Royal Highness that it was his duty as a member of the Royal Family to take a bride from either the British Aristocracy or better still a princess from one of the European Royal families, just like it has always been done.
Because of their position of privilege they are duty bound to follow certain protocols
