Isn't that the same reason the royal family turned their backs on Diana? because she didn't conduct herself "properly".
The man knew her before he proposed to her. The idea that she should become some trophy wife for him and the sake of his career is sooo 1950's.
Some people seem to have forgotten the women's liberation movement.
