I've rarely seen such a fuss over someone sitting up, no voices raised, no punches thrown and a handshake.

Would that have been the case if they were outside the house?

What difference would that have made? The only difference as far as I can see is that we wouldn't have had a thread full of people getting upset over, like I said before, an exchange of words and a handshake.

I know, ridiculous isnt it

Plus have people forgotten earlier in the show when Paddy called Jedward sausages, it was only a joke anyway but Bobby seemed really offended and have Paddy a long lecture on it, Paddy didnt get angry or anything he just took on board what Bobby said, apologised to the twins and shook hands.

Edit - and as Josy has said above Bobby called Paddy a sausage last night; he was obviously trying to wind him up

Yeah Paddy's has a bit of a rough background, been in plenty of fights etc. but he's at least big enough to admit that he made a lot of mistakes in his life and he regrets a lot of what he has done. Although two of his biggest critics here, Zippy and Suze, dont actually watch the show so wouldnt even have seen that

and because I missed him utter a couple of (probably insincere) lines about him regretting his past that makes all the difference. His whole mentality seems to have been steeped in savage brutality his whole life so I find it very hard to believe he's had some sudden enlightenment about what a bad boy he's been. More likely he's now just too old to cut it. Or just BSing for TV like he has done before apparently. And his latest court case is very recent so..

And I suppose you're another one who wants to sweep his sexism and homophobia under the carpet becuase it suits? Yeah, like I said before about people adjusting their moral compass.

You can't stop people thinking and feeling. I've not heard him be sexist or homophobic in an aggressive way. If he doesn't agree with people being gay or women being equal, he joins at least 50% of the rest of the men on earth, and that's a conservative estimate. Until I hear him insult someone for being gay or for being a woman, I'll continue to think he's not as bad as he's being painted.

He never quite said that he didnt agree with people being gay either(that I heard anyways, I may have missed an episode somewhere along the line). I just saw him getting quite pissed off at the suggestion that his son might be gay. Which, may be wrong, but I expect many many straight men would be the same.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong...

Paddy did an interview just before he went in the house where he stated that a good friend of his was gay, so I doubt he's homophobic.

LOL I do love these "I know a black person so I could never be racist" arguements!

I guess he can't win either way then. He's lambasted if he says he doesn't like gays and equally lambasted if he says he does.

Its not quite that though is it? If he was truly homophobic, he would not have a gay mate. He would be disgusted by said person.

Just because you dont want your son to be gay, that does not make you homophobic. In my eyes anyways. And pretty sure its a view shared by most straight men, and even maybe some gay men too.

Oh well, that makes it all alright with the world then. It makes up for everything else about Paddy. All hail Paddy.

How can you come at this with a balanced opinion having never watched the show? Seems you just have a preconceived notion if what Paddy would be like and are using that as a basis to judge him

And where is the evidence of Paddys raging homophobia? All I've seen is Sally asking what he would do if his son was gay and he said "why do you always come out with these wise cracks?", can't quite remember the conversation exactly but a lot of people would feel a bit uncomfortable in that position

He sounded pretty sincere to me but I guess that's open to interpretation, and wasn't his latest court cases because he'd got assaulted by 2 of his cousins

As for his apparent sexism and homophobia I've not really seen any examples of him being discriminatory in that sense; he might hold views that would be considered so but a lot of it is probably due to his culture and upbringing, and like Livia said he's not really homophobic or sexist in an aggressive way and his views would probably be shared by a lot of the population. It's not something I condone but I find it hard to use it as a basis for actually disliking him as a housemate.

It's pretty much falls under the same category as arguing then shaking hands after to me.
