Yeah, routine flights were hijacked with passengers on board. Been a couple of movies made about them too.

I don't think you hear about this much, but I think its one of the most beautiful things to ever happen. Perhaps beautiful is the wrong word, but the people on board were absolute heroes. I can't imagine how their family feel.

the more concerning thing I learned from a commercial pilot who worked with a Scheduled airline company ..... is that despite the changes the the cockpit doors/locks, timers etc, the one thing that was not looked at was the wall between the toilet up front - next to the cockpit.

Something i'd have thought was so obvious: but it took some time before it was established that that was a weak spot..... Shocking in reality that it wasn't considered at the same time as the cockpit door access.

I often wonder what would of happened if everyone on the other 3 planes just took a stand and ran at the terrorist bastards.

Yes, I think it's less talked about than the twin towers attack. I agree, I think the people on board were so brave to attempt to overcome the hijackers, taking into account that passengers had already been stabbed and the pilot was lying dead, they are all heroes in my eyes. Even when things were looking extremely bad for them, they had knowledge of the previous three attacks so they had an idea of what was going on but they still didn't give up hope. Just remarkable people.

It was heading towards the Capitol building in Washington, where had it not been for the brave attemps of the passengers on board, a lot more people would have died.

Well I think it would have been a similar situation to that of the flight United 93, where it didn't reach it's intended target but crash landed somewhere, still killing all of the passengers on board.

They were true heroes. One of them was Mark Bingham, he was a gay rugby player from California, and his mom started the first ever gay rugby league World Cup in his honour.
