Default do you ever wonder how 'real' an internet chat can be??

I often wonder this I came across this forum and lately I've noticed that I've spent a lot of time on it recently due to BB, but is it real?? I'm not sure whether it is, it's certainly different to real life.

I think in real life I personally wouldn't be any where near as outspoken in my opinions, and a lot more shy or fearful of the consequences??

what are your opinions?

How do you mean is it real? It's real in the way, we are still the same people typing and having conversations. Do people act differently then if they were having face to face conversations? Probably mostly yeah.

well I don't often find myself having in depth conversations like the ones I have on here in reality, that's one thing that's strikingly different from my viewpoint, I think it's a good thing but it worries me that it's not completely real I mean in real life, you have commitments etc

In a way it's more real because of how people won't hold back their opinions.

But overall it's much less real.

I just think it's easier to be more frank online as your not face to face and people don't know who you are. Some people act completely different I'd imagine but others feel more relaxed and really speak what's on there minds, where they might not have the confidence to in "real life". It doesn't make a person fake, just more confident in expressing themselves online than in a face to face situation

yes that makes sense, the consequences aren't as serious on line, perhaps that's why it doesn't feel quite right,

it reminds me a bit like a night out when everyones drunk suddenly inhibitions are gone and more things happen

I'm much funnier in real life but overall I'm the same person I think. Opinionated but not confrontational.

I'm pretty much the same on line as I am face to face. Although I much prefer a good deep debate face to face. Sometimes on line you could mis-read someone's opinion where as face to face you see the emotion.

I think as you get to know people on here, their personalities start to show more and you sort of know what they'd be like in real life... but although you can see peoples sense of humour or what makes them annoyed etc I do reckon that there are folk who would be totally different in real life. I blether away happily on here to complete strangers and have a bit if banter but I'm quite shy and quiet in real life unless I'm in my own wee comfort zone with people I know well.

I have two personalities in real life - one comes across on here more than my other.

1. Kind of camp, speak my mind, swear alot, argue all the time, funny, awesome and really bubbly.

2. Chilled out, easy going and laid back and holds my opinions to myself, far more nicer and considerate to people and quite clever.

Personality One is shown alot more on TiBB and in School for some reason.

I can't imagine you walking up to your mates and giving them an order to go and slaughter a pig down the road and bring it's corpse to The King at once or else you'll sentence them to death etc etc

I'm a real boy. But yeah, I say the sort of stuff I would say in 'real life'. In reality I'd probably mumble and utter a few more expletives though

I find it a lot more difficult to get to know strangers in real life than on line. I suppose in here we all have something in common whereas in real life you might be speaking to someone who can't stand big brother and might get offended if you just mention it's name.

Yeah I know what you mean..I find it very awkward and uncomfortable talking to real life people whom I have nothing in common with... I don't do small talk well! Whereas here, its just a case of answering people you actually have something to say to... if that makes sense?
