BAKERS like Greggs will have to charge more for their warm food because of what has been dubbed a ‘pasty tax’.

Bakers face a price hike after George Osborne said VAT will be placed on all warm foods, meaning some of Greggs’ best known snacks go up by 20%.

And as a result the Newcastle-based company has seen £30m wiped off its value.

The move means Greggs products such as the Steak Bake and the Cornish Pasty which once avoided the duty will be hit with 20% increases.

Mr Osborne wants to introduce the changes within the next six months.

The Chancellor’s changes will hit products which once escaped VAT, including warm rotisserie chicken sold in supermarkets. Even haircuts could go up in price as hairdressers chairs are hit with the tax.

Also I get why fatty foods and that are being taxed more, but things like cooked chickens? Surely this is going a bit too far...

Cooked chickens already cost like a fiver each. This means they will be a pound more

It is like a satfat tax, its a good idea.... If the huge fast food chains like maccy Ds, kentucy, pizza hut and burger king are included we will be debt free in a matter of months! hahaha

Saturated fat tax I think is a good idea. But taxing all hot food is a bit daft...

I don't actually see why this is so ridiculous tbh, all it means is that hairdressers are now going to have to pay VAT on their chairs, like people have to do with any other product, whereas they didn't before
