It's complicated LOL... But in a nutshell... The Jews were slaves in Egypt for hundreds of years and God sent plagues to the Egyptians to encourage them to set them free. When that didn't work he sent the Angel of Death to kill all their first-borns. He told the Jews to slaughter a lamb and douse the blood on their doorsteps so that the Angel would know to "pass over" their house. The Egyptians started to take it seriously and the Jews were off to Israel where they all lived happily and peacefully ever after. Oh, no... hang on a minute...
And yes, it was Moses who led them out.
