I would never do it personally, but we are lucky we have a benefits system to fall back on.

Someone in my family tree did have to do it. Her husband died leaving her with three hungry mouths to feed all under the age of 6.

That makes me sad. Not being flippant with you - that really does get me and when I see some who get so much having done so little for it. I'm sorry to hear that and hope that all is well with her now.

Sorry, I should have made myself clearer, this was back in the past, during the Victorian age when she had no chance to draw any benefits.

It's still extremely sad though, and later in life she couldn't live with it . The children were well brought up though and did quite well for themselves and looked after her too.
