2) I think the prostitutes are sadder than the 'clients'. Clients are often successful men just looking for extra fun with more money than sense. Allegedly Wayne Rooney used them. He's on £220K a week with an OK looking wife (not beautiful I admit) and a kid. He's not exactly some pathetic loner. Then there's his former team mate Christiano Ronaldo who apparently paid women for their *time*. Not exactly a desperado. Then you have the City executives and traders blowing their bonuses etc.

Surely that makes them clients sadder than the prostitute then. Succesful famous rich but still feel the need to pay for it!
