7-7:30ish, unless we're taking the kids, then it's like 5:30, home by 6:15.

..LOL..yeah, I think I've been there a few times as well SA...I remember especially with my oldest son when he was very young and used to sit in the high chair thing in restaurants...it was very embarrassing because he always escaped from anything you put him in and it was an endless cycle of keep putting him back in and him running around the restaurant chatting to everyone...when they obviously didn't want to chat, but wanted to eat their dinner instead....

but exactly. "I'm sorry, sir, the boy is just curious, please have a pleasant evening and enjoy your meal." <scurries back to table to talk with the boy>

It's been godawful where we live now because we don't know anyone and have no family here, so the kids have to come out every time.

..aww, that's a shame because you need some time together as well..you could look out for young people putting posters up etc offering baby-sitting and maybe go by recommendations of other people who have used them..?...

it depends on the ocasion or were your going to eat, pubs or bigger food chains like harvester its just turn up and have a drink while a table becomes available.
i like to get in and out, cant see the point in taking 20 minutes between each mouthful of food.

It's alright, Ammi, we'll just wait. The daughter is a year or two away from becoming a competent sitter herself. Don't want to test the waters of strangers just yet. Good thought though!

I really only go to restaurants for dinner anyway, so it would be around 8pm that I would want the booking for.
Never found any need to book for things like lunch.

The reason I ask is because I hate when people turn up/book at our restaurant for 8:30/9.. I mean whats the point in that.. I want to leave and get home by 11. You assholes who stick around and make me stand around doing nothing but wait until you've finished deserve spit in your food

True ..... no need to book at the bottom end of the market - McD takes all-comers any time .....

Claridges, however, requires 3-6 months notice even for afternoon tea reservations .....

Wayyyy too early. How can you go about the night having eaten at 5pm? I come home around that time and eat a little snack before eating dinner around 8pm/9pm. Have been my whole life

On weekends we have lunch at 3/4pm
