don't rule out gangster films tbh - Snatch was a film I only saw recently but it was incredibly good.
(also Bruce Almighty stars JA and it's worth watching  )I'd suggest Oldboy, Tyrannosaur, The Prestige and Jackie Brown. Dunno if you've seen them though.
