Is it really necessary to be wasting money on this? surely the BB producers would play birdsong over anything they deem dodgy from Dan anyway without all this extra work time having to be put it by the police force

Birdsong simply tries to cover up slovenly production standards, 'way too much work to edit out so-called non-broadcastable segments and replace them with PC clips. Much easier to put up "sorry for loss of sound".

He might not be the sharpest tool in the shed to leave such a good job but he was smart enough to become a Detective so I'm guessing he will know to keep his mouth shut when it comes to the investigations he took part in.
