A heck of a lot of people who aren't from those areas (but obviously not you because your a linguistical Goddess) cannot differentiate between Essex girls and Cockney girls.

I look past it when viewing them as HMs, accents mean jack **** and liking/disliking someone because of their accent is pathetic.

Sam is just too hard to understand for me, though it's not as if he speaks much anyway.

I wonder if it might not be the tone of the voice rather than the accent that grates. For instance the tone of Jemima's voice grated on me - her accent didn't. Sophie has a very lazy tone and she drawls her words as opposed to speaking them. Hazels tone is muffled at times and somewhat slurred at others. Charlie's voice is easy to listen to and understand. Dan has a squeaky tone sometimes. Sam's tone is somewhat muffled and needs careful listening. The twins have a childlike tone and so does Gina. Callum has a mono-tone...Dexter has a somewhat modulated tone. To my ears Charlie has the least grating tone and is therefore the easiest to listen to.

That's a big part of it. Sophie has two modes - bitching and whining. Wouldn't matter if her accent was Essex, Irish or Portuguese, she'd still be bitching and whining.

I dont't find any of them diificult to understand it takes me abit of time with Sam but thats because he has difficulty with his hearing with that in mind he does bloody well.

I like some Scots accents but not all, Irish is my fave.

I have family in Scotland and have grown to really like Glaswegian, it sounds really aggressive and guttural but I find things much more funny when someone with that accent says it.

I struggle with Irish, Norn Oirish in particular I am not too keen on.

It was understandable, I had no problem understanding it.


But in terms of what people like and find ideal and what turns them on and what have u, many people find an Irish accent does it for them, it doesn't work for me.

Same as some people find a Yorkshire accent endearing and others find it gruff.

I've been told I sound a bit BBC by relatives of mine in Canada.

Yeah, his is a Cork accent which is right down South, Hazels is also a Republic of Ireland accent but she's from Dublin so it's a little different, our Republic of Ireland accents differ from county to county just like your do over there but maybe it's harder to separate them when you're not from here? Although saying that i can tell the difference between alot of English accents
