If he hit Linda or started making racist or homophobic jokes in there, then you would have every right to call him up on his behaviour, but it is wrong to chastise him for mistakes he made in his PAST...

That is EXACTLY what you are doing!

You said you knew NOTHING about him & found out he had hit his ex wife etc.. by reading a newspaper article online lol... So you are basing ALL of your dislike of him from what you have read...
