I think we only feel sad for beautiful things. that's why it's so confusing. In sadness, we are appreciating the loss of a beautiful thing, usually.
We mourn the loss of beautiful things. Things we love. And in doing so we are showing a certain kind of compassion that in itself is also beautiful. The mourning of beauty, and of beautiful things, is beautiful in and of itself./ I think that makes sadness beautiful. Sadness is actually a compassion for beautiful things, and having compassion is beautiful, therefore sadness itself is beautiful. does that make sense?
