There was no clever editing going on there. It just confirmed to me what most people are saying - that Gary is being either ignored or lectured by HMs - while saying nothing bad either to them or about them himself.
It was pretty sad to watch. He looked his age if not older, and seemed pretty exhausted by the whole thing. Who can blame him?

Maybe they fear that gary will say thing to them that will make them upset or angry with him knowing the Big Brother's edit will favour gary and not them, so they choose to limit the time their spend with him out fear in being the next one out, after all David lost his temper with him at least twice and was evicted as result, James tries to talks to him about his behavior and gets booed by the crowd.
I was in that house I would be on my guard as well, around gary.
