She never was one of the best - just one of the luckiest because she knew Paul Mcartney. Sandie Shaw, Dusty Springfield, Helen Shapiro - the list of better singers goes on. By the way, lovely 'girl next door Cilla' was anything but; she was, and is a big fake - that scouse voice is totally effected, watch early footage of her being interviewed and she talked posh. Then there's the thousands of pounds worth of cosmetic surgery and dentistry. Her whole 'working class girl' façade (which made her rich and famous in the first place)got blown away when she was overheard slagging off working class people while swigging champagne with her Tory party supporting cronies. Oh - and then there's the little matter of a £1 million pound insurance claim for a 'robbery and tie up' at her house which - after an investigation - she never got paid out for.
