Thinking about it the only problem I have with the latest episode is that it centred around Pepper a lot. To a viewer that watched Asylum and/or for a fan of AHS this is a treat. Although for a casual viewer the episode probably would have felt too centred around one character they really don't have any prior connection with.
Pepper has effectively been a background character throughout the whole of Freakshow, so her suddenly coming into the limelight does seem a bit random. I think they should have had her involved more, let us seen the relationship between her and Elsa more.
Although it is obviously still beautifully acted/written. Would be great to see Naomi Grossman back next year as a different character. She has been outstanding with Pepper so I think she could do something really special with a different character in a different story.
On a side note the thing that worries me with Coven and especially Freakshow is that the main cast is bigger than it needs to be. There are so many characters being concentrated on that other characters are getting lost or suddenly pop up, I know Murphy must have a wish list of actors/actresses he wants on the show although he needs to clam down a bit and the cast needs to be lowered down, I'd rather have a smaller set of characters I can get to know on a deeper level rather than a lot of characters I only get to know vaguely about.
Murder House and Asylum got it spot on. Coven got messy. Freakshow is OK although I don't feel that connected to the characters as much as I did with Murder House/Asylum.
