Wow, hard to know what to say about this really, that a young man should think it OK to mug a man of this age is shocking. He probably needed the money for a drug fix to feed his addiction and was desperate . As he was sexually abused as a child and beaten also by his stepfather he dropped out of school but had no qualifications so couldn't get a job.

So homeless and hungry he was caught shoplifting and now has a criminal record. Let down by the system time after time he unfortunately found solace in drugs and now has to turn to crime to feed his habit.

A sad tale really, this man needs help and perhaps he will receive a minimal sentence, drug counselling , rehabilitation and help finding paid employment and a place in a hostel before more permanent accommodation can be found.

Thus speaks the case for the defence......

Alternatively.... We could just string the Bastard up !!
