Hmm, I do think this was a decision (was there really ever going to be a decision...) that wasn't taken lightly. The BBC haven't had a great reputation for a long while so something like this is perfect for them to show they are the 'good' channel and will do the 'good' thing.
It will take quite a while for Top Gear to get back on its feet (the next question will be, will Hammond and May stay or go). I think we've got to remember Clarkson has been presenting Top Gear since it started (the modern version we know now). Clarkson, May and Hammond have been presenting it for 12 years together, that's a long time in TV. Even though this decision to sack Clarkson had to happen, I bet the show producers and directors of the BBC are very worried now about how Top Gear can move forwards and still retain its audience. |

Inevitable really. I don't think Clarkson will lose an awful lot of sleep over it.

Do you think he should have just got away with punching someone he works with just because he's Jeremy Clarkson?

Clarkson is toast and as expected has been rightly sacked by the BBC over his latest episode.
The long suffering Beeb have finally plucked up the courage to tell clarkson to take a hike and some might say not before time. The show was great in it's heyday but is dated now and looks a bit like Last of the Summer wine on wheels. All things must go eventually and Top Gear is no exception. Mr Clarkson had been skating on thin ice for years but the thing that really sealed his fate was the whole "Celebrities are above the law" with ref to Jimmy Savile. I think the BBC realised they cannot ever allow their employees no matter how famous to flout the law with impunity. so on that Bombshell I'll finish this Post. As a footnote - I think the whole show will be scrapped and May,Hammond and STIG might come back along with a few new faces in a revamped show next year. Or might we see May & Hammond and STIG leave the BBC to team up with Clarkson to continue the show under a new guise at say CH4 or CH5 or even ITV

Even though he has been sacked, he has got away with it in a way. I bet the BBC are letting him go with some lump of money. If this happened to any old person they would be suspended, go through months of investigation, and before all that probably be arrested and have a criminal record stamped against their name, being left jobless, their future unknown and their job prospects very thin. Despite this incident other channels and platforms aren't going to ignore the potential gain from taking Clarkson on (financially speaking), so I can easily see another channel or online platform taking the risk and perhaps ensuring Clarkson is controlled and not let loose for something like this to happen again. I'm kinda neutral over the whole thing. I think he should have been sacked, but personally I liked him as a presenter of Top Gear, so I will miss that. |

Meh. BBC is rubbish anyway. Quite sure he will get picked up by another channel. Not that I particularly like him mind.

I don't think I've ever said he was my favourite. Or even that I like the man.
