I agree,I am surprised no one mentioned VAT, espeically in relation to Nick Clegg, who in the 2010 election promised his party would never support a rise in VAT.

To be fair to all politicians,they cannot rule out rises to everything,however experience has it that the Conservatives have regularly increased and extended vat whereas Labour have not.
In fact I believe Margaret Thatchers govt; was the first to increase vat from its introduction, near doubling it from 8% to 15%.
