..I think though and looking at your above post as well...this is why these things are hard to diagnose and shouldn't be generalised and judged either because there is no 'one size fits all'..and bullying isn't always about 'power' it can also be out of frustrations and an inability to communicate, that can be something in the home environment but not always...but yeah, a child constantly in trouble for physical aggression is a worry but so can a child be who never gets into trouble as well....

Every bully I've ever encountered is a bully because they are seeking to feel powerful. These kids are seeking to feel powerful because they feel powerless at home. It's more or less that simple. If you respect your children as individuals and talk to them as equals then they will behave respectfully to others... It's more or less that simple. Treating like an equal does not mean pandering to or spoiling... It means exactly what it means. I talk to my 5 year old in exactly the same way I talk to any adult.

Why the facepalm? I NEVER said that you instil a moral compass in someone by hitting them - I said someone WITHOUT a moral compass is decidedly more probable to hit someone with a stick than someone who HAD a moral compass.

I have raised three moral, decent, honest, hard-working kids who have all graduated from Uni so I think I have a little knowledge on this subject. I have never had to raise a hand to any of my kids but I DID discipline them when I had to.

That said, I don't think the issue is as simple as you contend TS - a lot of kids do evil things or end up bad IN SPITE of the most loving and caring upbringing.

Good parenting and a stable loving home-life just reduces the odds of that happening that's all.

Doesn't revellers mean a party goer though? Which in that case would be relevant because that's what they were before they started rioting? They were festival goers turned rioters. Doesn't mean they're not also thugs

I think it was just people from a community protecting other human beings from getting hurt, regardless of skin color.

This is one of the most heartening and pleasing photos I have ever seen. It gives us some hope that this sick, fecked up world might just have a slim chance of redemption, because it shows the passive, moral, MODERATE majority finally stepping up and being counted against the mob minority.

Violence, Lawlessness, and Anarchy, transcend colour or creed or race, it will destroy America from within as it will destroy any country where such elements are allowed to manifest and grow unchecked.

These courageous black citizens have 'picked up the ball' and it is now up to the authorities in the USA to 'run with it' and begin a series of very public investigations into racism and the increasing number of highly questionable deaths of black people whilst being arrested or whilst in police custody.

The American government OWE as much to these moderate blacks and if they try to sweep this very real issue 'under the carpet' once this latest civil outrage has settled, then they will only be scoring an 'own goal' with that ball they've been handed by them.

I think it's semantics, and I don't really think it is helpful for publications aimed at specific communities to focus on nuances as it creates needless tension
