Should people just assume that chewing gum will kill you, how would you instinctively know how much is too much without guidelines?
Gum is not an addictive or controlled substance, why would anyone think to limit their intake?
If it contains a substance which could be seriously detrimental to health then there should be information provided that makes the consumer aware of that, being unaware of the facts does not make anyone a moron.

We are regularly told via advertising of sugar free gum to 'eat drink chew' IS the common sense thing to do after meals to neutralise plaque acids.
