There were adverts that showed the dangers of smoking in cars a couple of years ago and one about smoking in the house this year I think. There will always from any background that think 'I can do what I want in my car' so this will counter that.

I'm not sure how something like this can be enforced but ok.

How is it any different to a parent smoking at home. It's still just as bad.

The police can see you smoking and see the kids in the back pull you over and fine you Ł50.
It would be a lot harder to police in your home.

I'm fully aware of how a window works kizzy. The point I was getting at was that it will be difficult to actually enforce.

They could be smoking an e cig...not sure this is an appropriate use of police time ..seems to me it's just another fine to add to the many others to top up the coffers!

That's good to know, obviously it will be only enforced if you are seen smoking a cigarette by an officer.. the same way you can be fined for using a mobile phone.
If it can be identified from a cig, but cigs look like cigs... ecigs look like sonic screwdrivers.

What's the alternative, smoke detectors linked to the police station in cars?.. Don't shoot the messenger, even if this only acts as a deterrent it's worth it.
