Did they swap Stan and Babe's roles around once they were introduced? I remember Stan was described as the villanous one of the family and Babe was the 'agony aunt' and then they've turned it into the family mournin Stan and remembering him fondly and Babe is now the villain of the family. Perhaps they intended Timothy West to stay for longer to be a big villain and so had to turn Babe into the villain instead.
