totally agree. I dont think anyone would let their kid dress like that. Apart from maybe a celeb who says they let their kid be themselves, yet really, its the parent forcing them to be 'different'

Yes nothing idealistic or unrealistic about action man's eight pack and bulging biceps

I think it's a great idea to have a mixture of genders in any toy advert. We shouldn't be enforcing gender stereotypes at all, let alone from such a young age.

Honestly some of these comments are really annoying me to be honest, "we should have had a more normal kid".. erm? Since when was being gay 'not normal'? And why are we even making this assumption on top of portraying it in a negative light? This is not the 1900s. Grow up.

This almost made me cry! I used to play with my sister's Barbies and felt such shame afterward. I'm so glad we can just let kids be kids. Thank you for this! Boys like dolls too!

If you were referring to me, I never said being gay wasn't normal, get a grip, no-one here is saying that or even inferring it

If they really wanted to challenge the stigma of boys who play with dolls being girly or whatever, they should have used a kid that either wasn't made to look/talk like that, or that didn't do either naturally, but since they did, it only strengthens that viewpoint.

I agree with what everyone saying regarding gender roles and stereotypes etc. But from a business/company point of view, they've hit the nail on the head here since it's only going to make "girly" boys want to play with Barbies even more, providing that their parents buy it for them after endless pestering

If anything's going to put people off buying it is the fact that it sounds like "Mosquito Barbie"

Are you purposely trying to twist liam's words? or are you just reallyyy sensitive?
It's very clear to me that he wasn't saying that gay people aren't normal, but that the kid they used in the ad was playing up to the stereotypes, which doesn't exactly help the message they were trying to portray.

I don't know why you are telling me to get a grip.. this is a serious debate

Using the word 'normal' in contrast to what you perceived as a gay stereotype suggests that, being gay is opposite to what is normal. You're not a homophobe, but your comment certainly inferred a homophobic theme. I'm just letting you know.

Yeah I'm really sensitive you're right I should just let people make blatantly homophobic comments and just ignore it lol why should I even voice an opinion I forgot I don't have that right here

Because you're trying to say I said something homophobic when I blatantly didn't.

Did you not notice where I said 'for lack of a better word'? I didn't infer being gay wasn't normal, I didn't infer that being gay was wrong, I didn't infer any sort of homophobia at all, take your faux offense at whatever you can find and stop trying to cause something out of nothing.

..in my thoughts earlier when I watched the ad, I used the word 'regular' and Liam use the word 'normal' and in the context of his post in it's entirety it was a perfectly acceptable word to use because the children in the ad are not being portrayed as what we would think as regular kids..and that to me is the only fault I have with the ad...mind you, Hayden has made some good points as well so I will rewatch it..(it was very early when I looked at it and it was a first thought..)...

You did infer that gay wasn't normal though. You contrasted the word 'gay' with normal. I don't understand how clear you want me to make it for you. What you said was pretty homophobic, I'm not trying to attack you or say you are purposely trying to cause offence because I know that's not your intention at all. The comment is problematic, and it ends there. For future reference, it'd be better to put something like 'differs from the societal norm' or mainstream. Saying something is not normal is to say it is abnormal and/or weird. That is what the phrase suggests, whether it was your intention or not.

This is one company's way of trying to be more gender-inclusive. They don't make wrestling or action figures otherwise I would assume they would include a little girl in an advert for that too. (and while we're on the subject that would also be a very good idea)

Everyone else seems to have understood what I meant quite clearly and didn't take offense to it, so that's your issue not mine, you should really stop taking everything so seriously and literally, it's not good.

...one of the definitions of the word 'mainstream' is 'normal' though, which is exactly the word that was used so must equally be as acceptable as something defined the same...Josh, I'm not trying to be pernickety but the whole post and context has to be considered and it was perfectly fine...both in use of wording and in content...
