Default McDonald's worker falls into boiling oil in Oz

FOOTAGE of a young McDonald’s employee suffering horrific burns after falling into an open bucket of boiling oil has been made public after a magistrate today imposed a $45,000 fine on the store.

Angela Buza, a shift manager at the fast food chain’s Warragul store, was in hospital for several days after being drenched in several litres of 160C oil drained from a deep fryer.

Ms Buza said she suffered severe pain, and became anxious and socially withdrawn after being doused in the dangerous liquid, requiring skin grafts on her arms and legs.

Get her in a sink of cold water first and why did the oil not melt the bucket?

Why on earth were they draining hot fat from a fryer and not waiting for it to cool down?

She's lucky to be alive.

Yeah... I worked in a student-bar kitchen while I was at Uni and whilst I got next to no training before they left me single manning (from my 3rd shift onwards ) one of the FIRST things I was told when going over the operation of the deep fat fryers, was to never ever attempt to drain them while the oil is still hot. And that place was so unprofessional it was scary. Unbelievable that they'd be doing this somewhere like McDonalds...

I wonder if they were instructed to by higher-ups to save time, or they had just taken it upon themselves to cut corners?

McDonalds have a lot to answer for for not providing Chicken nuggets that time of day I suppose it's not funny really as she could have assumed her ultimate form and then what would that poor bloke have done

When I worked at burgerking we had to empty the oil before it cooled, we had to leave the fryer off for an hour though so it wasnt boiling, but still could give a nasty burn. We also had to clean the broiler right after it was turned off. Both because the managers didn't like doing it first thing on a morning and didn't want to pay extra staff to come in to do it, so we had to do it at the end of a shift before we went home. If we chose to wait for it to cool, that was unpaid hours waiting.

the reason the oil didn't melt the bucket is because they're supposed to withstand harsh chemicals

Wtf, cooking oil after an hour will still give you a pretty serious burn... How are they getting away with **** like that? Its made worse because, as demonstrated in this video, as well as being a burn hazard its also a slip hazard.

I got several minor burns (and a few cuts) working in a kitchen... It's a hazardous environment, your health and safety really does need to be spot on.

Because people who work there need the job, and if you say anything against the lazy ass managers you are fired on the spot. Or that was the case when I was there, maybe its changed now but I doubt it.

There are some pretty strict health and safety obligations for employers though, at least in the UK (so, far, no doubt the current govt. is hard at work to remove those) and if they're not being complied with, those places could find themselves in some serious ****. I guess maybe they're relying on the ignorance / naivety of young workers to get away with it?
