One thing that annoys the crap outta me is when people put the milk in first when they make a coffee.Half the coffee does'nt dissolve and you end up with a sludgy mess at the bottom of your mug.
Do you put your milk in first? If so then why? What benefit do you get from this? |

In theory if you put the milk in first, then pour the water / coffee in slowly, the milk warms from cold at a uniform rate. If you dump the milk into the hot water, the thin "stream" of milk gets heated instantly by the hot liquid. It does change the taste / "milkiness" of the coffee slightly.
Of course, the fact that you're talking about the coffee "dissolving" means that you're not talking about actual coffee at all ![]() Last edited by user104658; 20-09-2016 at 07:30 AM. |

It doesn't make any difference imo. I used to have a flatmate who'd swear that if you put the milk in first then you burn it when adding the water

If it is instant coffee then it is coffee, milk and coffee cream first then add boiling water, the only time you get the bits of coffee floating on top is if you don't stir enough or the water isn't hot enough. Boiling water straight onto instant coffee taints the flavour for me.

I drink black coffee but If I were making a coffee for someone else I'd put the milk in last

If you put boiling water directly on to coffee it burns it, it should always be hot, not boiling water. Therefore, if you put milk in first, the water is not warm enough to dissolve the coffee hence the specks

![]() ![]() No wonder you are a tea drinking nation. Brewed coffee...or coffee grounds, hot water, french press... then after you pour... milk or sugar or whatnot. Personally, I drink it dark and black. ![]() |
