If you were talking about Universities, or even final year high school students, and also if it was a debate with various sides represented rather than a "speech" / rant, then I would be inclined to agree.

Younger kids / teens however are highly susceptible to oratory and propaganda and it is definitely not appropriate in that setting. Plus, as above, I personally don't think a "soap box" speech without a validly presented counter-argument is appropriate in any academic setting.
