If you're a newbie or haven't had a drink for a while, it could just be the alcohol. If you usually drink like that and are fine then it could be EITHER that your stomach was already a bit off and not up to the task, or - as suggested by Withano - if you had anything to eat after you might be suffering from dodgy kebab syndrome. Many a bad hangover can be put down more to mild food poisoning from a bad snack on the way home. Urgh.

Also if you smoked a cigarette (and don't usually smoke) your hangover will be worse.

And finally, the advice about mixing is correct. Pick a lane and stay in it. Your options are beer, wine/cider, or spirits. Choose one! Your hangovers will be ten times worse if you don't. Also, drinking beer AFTER wine or spirits is never a good idea.

"Liquor after beer, never fear
Beer after liquor, never sicker"

Alternatively,

"Wine then beer, feel the fear
Beer then wine, you'll be fine."

Remember these important life lessons...

But best is just don't mix at all. I learned that far too late in life. I only drink Jack Daniels now and I can get absolutely hammered and barely feel it the next day, even though I almost never drink these days.
