Default What to get the wife for her birthday

Hello forum

Ronald here. It's my wife's birthday next week and I haven't the foggiest of what to get her. We're celebrating 40 years of marriage this year. Hard to think of ideas after such a time. We met on a fishing trip in Dungeness back in the 70s so I was thinking of getting her a fishing rod with her name printed on it. She likes fishing but hasn't been in over twenty years so I'm unsure if she would like it.

Any one on the forum have any other ideas? She also likes pottery, musicals and antiques.

Any ideas would be appreciated. R.

So she likes fishing, Musicals, Pottery and antiques?

How about a 'Big mouth Billy Bass'?

It's a fish, it's musical, it could now possibly be considered antique. The only thing missing is pottery, maybe you could put it on a pot background?

Those fish take me back a few years. My brother had one and his children used to hate it. He had to take it down off the wall in the end because it scared the children. Dont think my other half would appreciate a gift like this. I think I might go with fishing rod idea actually. I hope she will like it. R.

At least if she doesn't like it you've got a nice new rod to use yourself

That's true but if I get it in engraved with "Margaret" I must admit I'd feel a little silly getting it out.

I like to buy art for people as its something that they tend not to buy for themselves and is a great talking piece. How about something like this its available from Amazon

Spoiler:

At Ł27.99 it comes in comfortably on budget?

I am horrific with presents, I always get something thats really crap, or that I think has a huge meaning but the recipient just doesn't get it at all

Because of this, I tend to favour trips and such rather than gifts. Spa breaks, short holidays etc. You might be able to get a spa break for 50 quid tbh...I'm going with my mother on Monday and it was only 40pp including treatments, nighttime meal, breakfast and an overnight stay and a bottle of prosecco (never tried the stuff before but I hear its nice )

But of course not all women are into spa stuff and you would really have to go with her too as its a present...and a lot of men hate spas and anything 'girly'.

I agree with this, me and Gav always get eachother weekends away for presents because we both really enjoy it. And yes to Prosecco, strawberries and a bath once you're there

Love the artwork! I think that would be more a present for me than for my wife!

The idea of a spa trip sounds good. I will get her two passes so she can invite her sister or one of her bingo friends. She will appreciate that more than a fishing rod i think.

Thank you for helping me think outside the box. I will research into spas now. R.

The default answer to 'what do you want' is 'nothing' though. And trust me, getting that even when they have said they want that does not go down very well...

We don't celebrate valentines day in the Rogers household. Mainly because it's my second eldest's daughter. birthday Would feel strange celebrating her birthday by making love to my wife. R.

It is my ex wifes birthday and its a pain in the neck but at least it killed 2 birds with one stone. I think it should just be for under 30s
