Wanting stricter immigration policies does not make you a racist, it's the intent and motivation that makes the difference. Not all people that want a tough immigration stance are racist but all racists want that tough stance.

The whole 'if I speak out against immigration then I'm gonna be called a racist' is just a shield to discredit those accusations. It's simple to spot a racist and more often then not, it's not their stance on immigration that gets them clocked.
