The whole 'if I speak out against immigration then I'm gonna be called a racist' is just a shield to discredit those accusations. It's simple to spot a racist and more often then not, it's not their stance on immigration that gets them clocked.
'Clocking'' as you put it could just as easily be described as paranoia. Just because you think you have 'clocked' someone doesn't make you right - you do realise that don't you. Your opinion is not always right.
