Yep, you can imagine certain types of jobs/careers would attract none empathic types. Surgeons, coroners and those who work in the killing rooms of abattoirs. But psychiatrists and therapists must surely be empathic?

Its kind of a known thing in the industry Niamh. My dads a consultant psychiatrist and I grew up with conversations around the dinner table about how peoples minds work or how depressed he was because everyone patient he's seen that week are less mental than he is! He has told me on numerous occasions that sociopaths, especially those going to medical school, have a keen fascination with the human mind and so often go into the mental health sector.

For the record, there are many high functioning sociopaths who go through life without any problems. They tend to have keen minds and climb to the top of their chosen career ladder because they simply don't have emotions to hold them back.

Yeah it makes total sense when you think about it.

I think it's also a very callous thing to say 'I have not got time for those that wont help themselves' in regards to homeless people being denied service for no other reason than they are homeless. Pray tell, how are homeless people like the one in the article meant to help themselves when people aren't willing to give them a chance.
There are violent drunks, sex offenders and heroin addicts that are home less who put the money in their arm instead of paying the rent.
Like I said I got a good heart but I'm nobody's fool, just because someone is home less it does not make them a good person.
I'm all for treating those that have a bad life with dignity but some live like animals.
I have not made any one homeless, people just down the road pay a hundred pound for a bowl of soup, do they think about the people starving when they eat it, no they don't.

And none of this has any relevance to the topic at hand.

The man in question by all accounts is none of the things you have listed yet you seem fine with denying him the chance to buy food because of something you've accused 'some homeless people' of apparently doing and you seem fine to generalise and tar all homeless people with the same brush and at the same time try to invalidate anyone that treats the homeless with kindness by setting implausible standards for them.

It just seems like you want a target to spew bile at, in all honesty.

Actually I would think most sex offenders would not be homeless as they have to register their living arrangements when they are released from prison don't they?

You are looking for something that ain't there, the man in question should of been allowed to eat in if he wanted but not places are the same and I don't make the rules.
If people want to give to the homeless I don't have a problem with that, don't accuse me of spewing bile which I consider an insult, I take a harder line with the homeless not all of the homeless just the ones that lay in there own piss and sick.

So you take issue with the ones that may need help the most?

Have you never watched a fly on the wall program when cameras follow the police and ambulance services, its the same people again and again.

In one it showed a heroin addict who had stoped breathing they could of stood there and watched him die, but they brought him back to life only for him to be
pissed off with them for ruining his high.
if people want help, help them but these people don't want help.
It don't make me a bad person for having an opinion that is hard line, it makes me, me.

But how do we know which ones are which... by presumption? I don't want to give money to addicts of alcohol or drugs. I don't believe a lot of these people who beg are genuinely homeless but in the cold light of day, I never presume to know one from the other, so if I buy what appears to be a homeless person a burger and it turns out the guy isn't really homeless at all but trying to scrounge money for drugs, I'll never know and by never knowing, I will carry on giving (not money). At least this way, once in a while I'll be helping out a genuine homeless person.
