I agree to the extent that it is unlikely to be one extreme or the other. I also feel the bremainers accusations of racism etc were extreme and should be dismissed as mere slander and osbournes threats of doom and gloom were scaremongering nonsense, whereas the other end of the spectrum was also exaggerated. This is something dianne abbott said shortly after brexit, thus ensuring labour wont win another election for a few generations.

This will have a million and 1 repercussions and , its not written in stone either way and it depends how we play our hand and how we rewrite our laws...that will take years , maybe decades

Since brexit , although this has been 9 months of not having physically left, businesses and politicians across the UK and europe and the world have known we are leaving and the economy has responded very strongly and far stronger in the 9 months than the bremainers predicted....The ftse 100 / 250 and 350 have all increased in value by over 25% thats a remarkable increase in 9 months...The dow jones is the highest ever and risen a record 900 points in trumps first month....thats 100s of billions of value added to the top UK and US companies..unemployment is also down in both countries..the lowest now in 11 years at 4.7%.

The only economic downside so far is a weaker pound, but even that has helped save the steel industry

But what I believe is being said, is that Brexit won't be anywhere near as bad as people who are against it worry it will be, OR anywhere near as good as Brexiteers are championing it to be.

EU won't last another ten years any way, the standard of living have went way down in europe over the last number of years, and the break-up of the EUSSR, is going to happen if you like it or not, poland and hungary are most set to leave in the far future, because merkel has got far to much power in the EU, and because her apple cart has quit the EU, where will she get the 1.5 trillion to support million more refugees who will be staying in germany, we have got out of the worst nightmare that britain has been in for a long time.

To be honest ALL of the non-Tory parties need to crumble completely and a new viable opposition needs to rise. There are far more people who DON'T want Tory rule than who DO want it (only 37% of the popular vote), the vote of that other 63% just needs to unite behind one alternative.

I think a not so left wing more sensible but not Tory light Labour party would be the answer.Corbyn and McDonells politics is a niche market and doesn't appeal to the masses.
Also get rid of that awful Diane Abbott.Putting her on every BBC program as the voice of the Labour party does them no favours.
Some of Corbyns policies are great but then he has this far left mentality on top of that which ruins it.
Watching him on Peston on Sunday the other day(Sunday infact ) doing everything he possibly could to avoid answering a question on whether shoot to kill is ever justified against a terrorist.Castrating our nuclear deterrent by saying he'd never launch them and being involved in communist organisations like Stop The War.Labour now has a worse image crisis than the Lib Dems.
I don't think a brand new party would ever gain ground with the red/blue roots so deeply entrenched in England.I know that Labour will always win every election in my area so it's pointless voting. It doesn't matter who is in charge of the party or what they do there may as well only be one option on the polling cards where i live.

great post...we desperately need an opposition otherwise it could be 30 years of tories, this labour lot are useless, weasels like abbott will kill them off forever... so 30 years of tories and thats not good for democracy

I believe myself the UK now badly needs a proper PR system for electing govts.
That will never come from the Conservative party however.

I still think were infinitely better off under this tory lot than the last labour disaster
however looking into the future, labour will need to start again as will the pitiful lib dems, UKIP and the national parties...all of whom have the most lilly livered slippery wishy washy bunch of spineless charmless hypocrites in charge

A true center party with a focus on creating jobs and trade, sensible about benefits for the out-of-work but fit, but generous to children / those with disabilities would almost certainly destroy the Tories. We don't seem to be able to find that middle ground. A party with SENSIBLE and realistic plans for getting people into work / trained / educated if they are able, but that doesn't cruelly nip away at the truly vulnerable the way the Tories have been. I don't really understand why it doesn't exist. I think, partly, the problem is that people are deeply entrenched in the politics of the 20th century and it'll be very hard to drag people away from their "roots" without a complete overhaul of the system.

If you mean people not having to fear legal consequences for speaking their mind, then sure. If you mean that you want right-leaning people to be able to say whatever they want, but then bitch and cry when people "call them names", or there are other natural consequences for it... then no.

why don't some of the MP's disgruntled with Corbyns agenda break away and form a new party... I guess they are happy to pick up their salaries from the back benches.

the left never understand free speech...they cant dictate free speech....if we have someone who is chatting **** and being abusive he/she will be shunned and lose their friends and jobs..BUT you cant simply outlaw everything just because the left dont like it. Until the left actually come to terms with this infinite truth they will be in the political wilderness until the end of the world

You don't want Freedom of Speech, you want freedom for those that share your mindset and no one else.

Freedom of Speech is the last thing you believe in.
