They probably have very little knowledge of their civil rights within a British marriage. If all they have ever know is Sharia law, to them a Nikah marriage is
the real thing.

Under Sharia law, a divorced woman can normally keep her child until the age of seven and then that child must be handed over to the father. In the UK though, regardless of a Nikah marriage or a Talaq divorce, British law will decide who should keep full or part custody of the children... Sharia courts have no power over this.
