Because let's face it, if it was meant literally it makes zero sense. "Everyone who owns a cat is ______" makes no sense.
Whereas insulting a woman of a certain age (possibly single) as "cat lady". The "Cat ladies always vote for the hot younger man" etc.

Because maybe some people have different reasons why they use it like Hayden said with the OTT hate comments on facebook. i don't use it for an insult because it doesn't seem offensive to me and there's nothing wrong with cat ladies at all. they could be called a lot worst. but appearance attacks and slut shaming are a lot worse on here.
