Even Frankie & Benny's have started with this nonsense! We went last night... thankfully, my pizza came on a regular plate, as did my wife's burger. The kids, however... eldest got the "mini hotdog trio" with chips. The hotdogs came on a chopping board and the chips in a tiny metal bucket . I don't really care if they serve the food on a block of wood as long as there isn't gravy sloshing off the edge.

See that's the issue though; the wooden blocks are flat with no upturned sides, and my daughter is clumsy AF. Trio of hotdogs flying hither and tither.

That made me laugh. I have felt stuff was going to 'slosh' over the edge and is very off-putting.
