So I have a friend and she's normally really nice but her boyfriend has a really close bunch of friends and when shes around their girlfriends she changes so much, shes dead sarcastic and acts snotty.
It's so irritating, why do people do that?

Yeah I hate that, she's obviously trying to fit in with his "bunch" but it's stupid and fake, hopefully she's ll grow out of people pleasing like that when she gets older and has more confidence to be herself and not give a **** whether people like her or not

I think everyone asks differently in front of different people to a certain extent.

We are all chameleons, we adapt to our circumstances.
As long as she doesn't change towards you then just see where it goes. |

I'm guilty of this a lot tbf. It's the only way I can juggle friends I've grew up with from Tottenham and people I've got to know more recently through my Fiancé etc.

I think we all "change" depending on who we're with: You might share a similar sense of humour with one group of friends and another with another group of friends. As long as you aren't changing in a negative way, I think it's all good. |

Yeah, acting differently is fine. Like, I adjust my behaviour if I'm with colleagues versus with friends versus with family. It's all about what is and isn't appropriate.
However, if she's completely changing personality like becoming snotty then that's obviously not a good thing and hopefully it's her immaturity which she'll grow out of. |

I used to know someone who would act perfectly fine around me, but would act the complete opposite and a prick whenever he was around his friends in order to impress them. Fake people like that bother me. Otherwise, it's normal to adjust your behaviour depending on who you're with. Like Marsh said, when I'm at work with colleagues, I'm completely different to how I would be with some of my friends who I've known for years.

Yeah she just wants to fit in as Niamh said and wants to be part of their group. Probably thinks she needs to act more cool. It's one thing to adapt yourself to a situation (I think that's a good thing), but to completely change your personality is not the way to do it.

well maybe you should talk to her, cause if you are really really good friends, like bff's you should let no problem stand in your way of having a good time

She is trying to be liked and is still too young to be confident and comfortable with who she is, that comes with age.
But its irritating when you can clearly see it. Id just say " stop acting like a dick to make them like you" when she says "no i dont" show her a surejan.gif on you phone and raise your eyebrows that will learn her |

My English Language a-level currently studying is going to come out now
Usually you change language and attitudes towards different social groups. For example you're more polite and held back towards your family etc whereas you're different towards your friends. These characteristics are sociolects and make up your idiolect. this is probably really confusing and im drunk so u probably won't be bale to understand |
