[From now on, shoppers at the East of England Co-Op's 125 stores will be able to buy a range of tinned goods like beans and as well as dried foods such as crisps, chocolates, cereals, nuts, cake, coffee, tea, pasta and rice for 10p.] Its a start. Last edited by arista; 04-12-2017 at 03:09 PM. |

Hopefully all the supermarkets will follow suit.
Depends if it affects profits I suppose. |

Oooh yeah if they have actual coffee beans I'd be all over that. I mean, I'm pretty sure once sealed those should really last forever? Probably no difference at all between a bag that was sealed last week and one just past it's sell by date.
Have to be honest though - with tinned goods I think I'd be a little wary . Though I do remember watching videos years a go, of a guy who would keep various food for like 10, 15+ years and then open it and attempt to eat the contents. Often it was totally horrific - but one time he opened a pack of "Lucky Charms" cereal that was something like 8 years out of date and he was like "Err... ... ... there's nothing wrong with it... it could be a brand new pack!" Which is maybe sort of worrying . |

It's being rolled out to address the huge amount of food waste created by best before dates, pretty sure there wasn't much wastage in Dickensian times
