Since when did garbage disposal become a full-time ****ing job?

By the time I've sorted it I'm so late for work the place has ****ing closed.

I think most of the recycling is a con (i am very good myself) but i do think half the stuff i put out never gets recycled - do we ever find out , in my area we actually need a recycling truck going behind the 'recycling truck' to collect all the plastic bottles left in the road ! Nevermind they throw the black boxes everywhere, it really is dreadful.

You have to sort your recycles? We have automatic recycling and they pick it up on the curb and to take it to a sorting facility... the downside is, they don't take glass in the trucks anymore in order to reduce weight (I guess to increase gas mileage)... most do take glass though and take it mixed.

The only time we had to sort our recyclables is when I have to take it in directly after Hurricane Harvey hit and pickup stopped for like a month or two... that was a real pain, because a lot of what I get, I recycle... but I do question how much actually gets through the process... still better than sending it all to the landfill though.

It gets collected, but you have to sort it into separate bags/boxes.

I wonder which method is better, what makes it to actual recycled material more easily

If it's machine-based, I always wondered if the employees just threw away what they thought might be an issue in the machine... like they won't take plastic bags, because supposedly they get stuck in the sorter. So I just take in to the grocery store.

We have separate food waste, cardboard, paper, cans and all plastic but no black, and it all has to be separate, cardboard has to be tied together not with any paper , and try getting a new box from council when some gits nicked yours.

I've never had one stolen, but they've repaired one of our cans (the bar broke off where the truck has to lift it)... took them a week or so, we had to keep it empty at the curb...

I keep a big round thick plastic bin that has ropes on the ends so that we can carry, that I drilled holes in and we keep outside... the rain helps to wash the plastics, weigh down cardboard, etc They explicitly state they'll take wet paper/cardboard, that moisture is not as much of an issue as food contaminate...
