Default If you were carjacked at gunpoint outside your own home.

What would you expect the police to do?-

Well if it was at gun point I think they'd probably take it pretty seriously as gun crimes are pretty rare here

My boss at work was car jacked (at knife point not gun point) a few years ago. There was a spate of them happening at the time in Salford and the police turned up, took the details and that was pretty much all she heard about it. Her car had a tracker and it was found dumped not long after and she had to go and collect it. She was pretty shaken up as it happened outside her house and they took her keys which had her house keys etc so she was really nervous for a long time (luckily she was in the processing of buying a new house so once she moved she felt better)

Depends where your home is tbh. If it's in a quiet village what are the police expected to do? If its in an area with a lot of gun crime, expect an armed response unit.

I'd expect them to do what Parmnion suggested, looked at CCTV footage and tried to find the gunman/woman

There are a lot of rules about cctv footage, about what can and what can't be used, and again its very dependent on location.

The public shouldnt be expected to go and ask waitros for cctv footage themselves though, which is happening...that surely is a police job.

if no-one was hurt, the default result in a robbery is to get a crime number and use that to claim insurance. Robberies don't tend to get investigated these days

I know the police are stretched but I'm sceptical that a robbery wouldn't be investigated, the perpetrators of armed carjackings are generally going to be quite serious criminals who would be quite high on the police radar

Yeah I'm very surprised by that as well especially where guns are involved
