The Jungle Book (2016)

I really enjoyed it, it was just as good as the original. The visual effects were perfect and felt realistic, the voice performances were on point, especially Idris Elba's Shere Khan and the action was awesome!

8/10.

I don't think I properly "got" the subtleties of Dark Knight Rises back in 2012.

However...

Bane's voice is still daft
I'm the same too. When I watched it back in 2012, I enjoyed it but wasn't ''wowed'' by it like I had been with Batman Begins and Dark Knight. It's a film that gets better with age.

Nowadays I can't decide if I prefer that or Batman Begins after TDK. What an amazing trilogy.

Hearts in Atlantis - I really enjoyed this, don't know how I missed it originally, love a bit of Stephen King and you can never go wrong with Anthony Hopkins. 7/10

Yeah I said earlier in the thread, I was surprised how much I enjoyed Batman Begins which I had only rated "OK" at the time. I do think that having more general DC knowledge now (knowing about Ra's al Ghul, League of Assassins/Shadows, Talia al Ghul) makes a major difference too, as I didn't really know who Neeson was supposed to be as a villain in Begins and I had absolutely NO idea who Talia was meant to be in Rises, it seemed like a completely random twist . I had also completely forgotten the "Pit" twist...

Spoiler:

That the child who climbed out was Talia al Ghul, not Bane... and the significance of Bane not being able to make the climb...

Just masterful stuff. 'cept Bane's voice. Although I do a good impression of it and like to troll my daughter with it because she has no interest in seeing the film, and has no idea what I'm doing. Haha. "Stop doing that weird voice ffs!!"

I've not seen Batman Begins, does
Spoiler:

Tahlia seduce Bruce? That's how Damian/Robin was conceived Is the Pit the Lazarus Pit, or the sewer thing Bane was trapped in as a kid?

I've not seen Rises in absolute ages either ...

Talia isn't in Batman begins, just Ra's al Ghul. the pit is...

Spoiler:

where Talia escaped from as a kid, her mother having been thrown down there while pregnant. You're lead to believe it was Bane for most of the film, the twist at the end being that it was Talia, who had in the film been posing as someone else (a business philanthropist) that Bruce was ... friendly with. Bane was her "protector" in the pit and got ****ed up holding back the inmates who were trying to get her, while she climbed up and escaped, later coming back with Dad & assassins to liberate Bane (all smooshed and needing the mask) and slaughter everyone else.

Although in the Nolan trilogy's "realistic" world (there's no superpowers or mystic stuff) I would guess that the pit prison is supposed to represent the Lazarus pit. You're "as good as dead" while you're down there, there's supposedly no way to escape, but both Talia and then later Bruce are "resurrected" when they manage to do the impossible and climb out.

Is that the one where humans have stopped breeding or something? And there's only one pregnant woman left on earth?

Edit - Just checked. That was Children of Men. As you were...

Scream 3 (2000)

Whilst it's not as good as the first two, it's still an entertaining flick. Parker Posey's Jennifer was brilliant.
Spoiler:

shame she dies though.

I always thought that. She was hilarious. Especially when she was ranting.

It's a poor movie, horror and suspense wise. But has other attributes that make it a fun watch.

Yeah, she stole the show.

It's the weakest one in the franchise for sure, but
Spoiler:

Roman
is one of my favourite killers and I do like the voice changer which was a nice new touch.

Yeah, the voice changer was absolutely ridiculous and dumb but Scream was never really realistic so it worked with the comedic tone and the satirical aspect.

Artemis Fowl

This film is only on for an hour and half and it felt like double that. Everything about it is attrocious. The writing is bad, EVERY performance is utterly woeful, the directing is shoddy, the CGI and special effects were laughable, and nothing about it resembles the books it's adapted from at all. It's remarkable how bad of a misfire this film is, there is nothing good about it and the actors seemed as bored filming it as I was watching it.

It's just terrible beyond words and nothing short of disrespectful of the source material it was supposedly adapted from. It lacks the charm and wit of the books and the characters are only the characters in name only, it's overly sanitised and it's riddled in cliches and tropes and whoever wrote the script lacks even a basic understanding of the material they're supposed to be adapting.

A 1/10 is too generous, a 0/10 doesn't quite do the job either. A positive number scale is too good for this dog****.

-10/10

No Country for Old Men - 9/10

That shoot-out between Moss and Chigurh was excellent

Killing Moss off-screen was unexpected, though.

Scream 4 (2011)

A major improvement on its predecessor. The deaths were executed well, opening scene was intense and genius, acting was good and the suspense was excellent. The only criticism I can give is the killers' motive. It's too weak and lazy.
Spoiler:

Jill wanting to kill her own cousin out of jealously because of her fame?
They could've picked so many other better motives and they picked that?

That being said, Emma Roberts was fantastic.
Spoiler:

She really made me hate her. A true psycho.

Some film about wrestling on sat with the rock and Stephen merchant. But as I don't remember much about it or the end and middle. I must have fallen asleep or indeed maybe we never watched it. Anyway it got good reviews.
