I believe this is what is happening to us, Italian people. Our grandparents used to go there a very lot, our parents a bit and us, not so much. It's a real issue in Italy now.
I go to Church on the same days as you do.

Whilst I've not much time for Christianity...the atmosphere of churches isn't really rivalled. Organs, the architecture, the semen stains in the pews...

I am going to come from left field on this.

According to the Greek word used, Ecklasea all it meant was a called out gathering, not a building. Jesus did not use a made up word. The word is used of the riotous assembly and in reference to law courts.

City elders called out to talk about drainage would be an Ecklasea.

So being a Christian, I am in the church, even when I am outside in the open or at my desk at work.

What people are talking about here are places of worship built for that specific purpose. Our congregation happens to rent space out at the Kingston Park Community Centre as we do not have our own building.

Now since the church is the people, not the building, as the Greek word stipulates, we don't go to church, but we go to the assembly to worship.

Simples

is correct. but for this instance i mean the building and what goes on inside.

ultimately the people are the church, hence the slightly odd reverence people have for the building itself

I think it is admirable that you put your parents' feelings before your own!

I never understood that rational. I told my parents when I was 14 that I would be paying them, and myself, a bigger respect by just not going and taking part in something I didn't believe in.

yeah, We were forced to go to mass and I don't even know why cos my parents aren't even religous anyway, It's like you had to make your children go. I would much prefer my kids to have open minds and decide for themselves

I tried once but the water fountain exploded and the pulpit burst into wild flames.

I've always dreamt of turning one of the old cathedrals into a kinda gothic techno nightclub. Think it would be class.

Oh, I doubt that. Depends how you structure the entire area and stuff. Could be magic.
