it's just highlighted for me what a mess USA politics is in. Listening to the GOP trying to defend Trump is embarrassing

The funny thing is that the American people will probably vote for another 4 years of Trump, and that's democracy.

Clinton was impeached and left with an approval rating higher than any previous president

A good day to bury bad news...

As impeachment was being debated, an appeals court delivered a long-awaited*ruling*on the*Affordable Care Act. The court said that the “individual mandate” provision of Obamacare was unconstitutional while punting a broader decision on whether the entire law was valid.

I doubt this impeachment will make any difference to the status quo.
He won’t be ousted.

You don't refuse to prosecute criminals because a jury may acquit

Someone doesn't face a criminal court because they maybe possibly said or did something according to a "witness" who didn't see or what they're accusing him of.

If you phone in an anonymous tip, that the police investigate and find a whole load of witnesses that back up your tip, then the accused tries to prevent anyone from testifying, then yeah, that's exactly how investigations work.

Intimidation of witnesses is frowned upon as a rule.

Indeed.
Shouldn’t really be an option to stay on if guilty of impeachment.
In my opinion.

I don't want to be that person who comes into the thread and comments despite not knowing anything, but what does this even mean?

Trump has been 'impeached' but he's still president, right?

Impeachment happens at Congress and is essentially a delcaration that there's a case to answer, the trial for removal happens at Senate but requires a 2/3 majority vote to remove the president... and the parties tend to (as always) vote along party lines so he will not be removed. The 2/3 majority rule makes it a relatively pointless process, to be honest.

He's only the 3rd president to be impeached in US history which should say a lot, but his supporters won't care.

You missed off the part where Trump gets to decide if he wants a trial by combat against Obama. Only fair to give Braden the full picture.

Its political showboating at its worst and illustrates how desperate and out of touch the Democrats are (and naturally worried they will get battered in 2020)

Witness after witness turned up to say it was wrong and against the constitution. Take Sondland, who got his ambassadorship after donating $1million dollars to trump, said it was a quid pro quo. These aren't democrats.

its a poor partisan, political move by the Do Nothing Democrats, fuelled by tribal animosities.

No wonder America is so divided - smh

You can't hold him responsible! He stands on the white - I mean, right side of history.

I need to stop mixing up my words with these Freudian slips.

Not holding him accountable means you are giving him free license to flout any and all laws.

What a strange grasp of morality you seem to have. When the impeachment leads nowhere, it won't be a declaration of innocence for Trump but a look at how corrupt the republicans truly are.

It's an open and shut case, given the wealth of evidence so if a removal from office doesn't occur, it shows how truly inept and corrupt the republican led senate is.

The world is corrupt, what it shows is he is guilty but is getting away with it.

Morals are worth nothing in politics or anything else, history has proved that.

So, you complain about the state of the world, yet you believe people shouldn't be held accountable for making it worse.

Okay.
